One of the most significant challenges we face as we get older is the change in our independence level. Our families and friends may want to check in with us from time to time to check we're doing okay as well.

Very few monitoring systems offer convenience, integrate with other products, and respect your privacy. Fortunately, the Nobi smart lamp is different.

What Is Nobi?

Nobi is thoughtfully designed to protect your personal space and offer support and assistance around the home. The lamp can be installed in any room in the house, although there's a benefit to adding one to each room.

Nobi can monitor the area beneath it using a range of sensors in combination with AI-based software. This might sound like marketing, but there's an important reason for the AI. By utilizing on-device processing, there's no need to send data to the cloud. This has the dual effect of making analysis quicker and protecting your privacy.

A connection to the mains powers the lamp, so there's no need to worry about replacing batteries. Nobi comes with a companion app that can set emergency contacts and adjust the various settings and integrations offered by the lamp. Its primary feature is fall detection, but there's a range of useful functions included, too.

Nobi Features

If installed in a bedroom, Nobi can detect when someone stirs and gently turn on the upward-facing light. If they proceed to get out of bed, then Nobi will fully light up the room. This is part of the unit's fall prevention feature. However, should you fall, then Nobi uses its onboard processor to generate an outline of where you lay.

Nobi will ask you if you have fallen. If the answer is anything but no, then the software attempts to get in touch with your emergency contact. If they also have the app installed, they'll be able to see the privacy-focused outline generated by the lamp. If that contact doesn't answer, Nobi contacts the emergency services on your behalf.

When used as part of a broader smart home setup, Nobi can even automatically unlock the doors to allow the responders quick access to your property. Alongside this service, the smart lamp can remind you to stay hydrated, activate an intruder alarm, and act as a smoke detector. The sensors also monitor air quality and can remind you to ventilate your home as required.

Where Can You Buy Nobi?

If you're after a comprehensive smart home monitoring system with fall detection and a range of other practical, useful features, then it's undoubtedly worth considering Nobi. The system is currently still in development but will be available for individual purchase by the end of 2021. There are also trials ongoing in shared or managed residential facilities and care homes.

Although final pricing isn't available, the company estimates that kitting out your home with smart lamps in each room should cost around $3,000. To access Nobi's services, you'll also need a recurring monthly $25 subscription. There will also be a rental option available at a lower price for those looking for an alternative.
