Nintendo has released its latest financial report and, as has been the norm over the past six to 12 months, the Switch is proving to be more popular than ever.

Switch Sales Surpass 3DS Sales

We already knew that 2020 (and the 12 months prior to 2020) was successful for the Nintendo Switch. Now, that success continues, cemented by sales figures for the popular device.

Heading to nintendo.co.jp, we can see that Nintendo has updated the console sales figures. We can also see that the Switch, despite only being released in 2017, is already Nintendo's fourth most popular console.

This means it has even surpassed the recently discontinued 3DS, which sold 75.94 million units during its lifetime.

Nintendo Switch Sells Over 75 Million Units

The exact figure is 79.87 Switches sold (which Nintendo splits between the Switch and Switch Lite).

Historically, it is Nintendo's handhelds that have done the best (aside, of course, from the ill-fated Wii U).

The Nintendo Game Boy racked up 118.69 million sales during its reign, while the Game Boy Advance shifted 81.51 million units.

The standard DS is the most popular Nintendo console to date, though. It sold 154.02 million units during production and sales. So, the Switch has a way to go if it is to become Nintendo's best-selling console in history.

Will the Nintendo Switch Continue its Successful Run?

Right now it is impossible to say how long the Switch's success is going to last. However, given that Nintendo keeps on publishing success story after success story, we can't see it letting up soon.

Whether you already have the console, or you're considering buying a Switch or Switch Lite, one thing is for sure, you won't regret investing in the Nintendo Switch eco-system like the other 80 million people who already have.
