Since its launch on Windows, the News and Interests app has become a convenient source of the latest happenings, sports, and financial updates, and weather conditions. Plus, it also gives you a heads-up of your followed interests which only makes it better.

News and Interests on your taskbar can be handy at certain times—like when you need to know the weather of another city. Let's explore how you can check the weather in any city.

How to Check the Weather of Another City From News and Interests

There can be many reasons why you would want to check the weather in another city. Maybe you've got news of an unfavorable climatic condition in a city where your family or friends stay, and you want to stay updated.

Or it could be that you're planning to travel from one state to another and want to pack your stuff and prepare accordingly. For example, you could be taking a trip from Florida, the Sunshine State, to Pittsburgh, where days can be extremely cold.

News and Interests will tell you the weather of the city you're traveling to in a snap. All you need to do is:

Hover with your mouse on the News and Interests icon on the taskbar to open the app. The weather card of your location would be on the top right.

Click on the three-dots menu next to the city name—in the screenshot below, the city is set to Florida. Select Edit location and unit from the menu to open the edit window.

Then turn off the Always detect my location option on top. In the Search bar below, search for the city you want to know the weather for and click on it. In the screenshot below, the search is for Pittsburgh. You can also change the unit from here if you want: Fahrenheit or Celsius.

The city will show up on the search bar. Now click the Save button. The new city with its weather will show up on the weather card, and you can check the forecast from here.

For a detailed weather forecast, click on the See full forecast button on the weather card. The Microsoft Start page with the city's weather will open on msn.com, and you can check the 10-day forecast of the city.

After you've checked the weather of the city you're traveling to, you can easily restore your own city's weather in News and Interests.

Click on the three-dots menu again and select Edit location and unit. Now in the edit window, just toggle on the Always detect my location option and hit Save—and your city and its weather will be back.

How to Have Only the Weather as the News and Interests Icon

News and Interests also shows personalized rotating updates on the taskbar, including news and more. The information relating to these taskbar updates will show up in an expanded view on your feed.

However, if you want only the weather on the taskbar, there's a snappy fix. Right-click any blank space on the taskbar and select News and interests in the context menu. From the menu that opens on the side, select Reduce taskbar updates. Now, you will only see the weather on your taskbar.

To start seeing other taskbar updates again, deselect Reduce taskbar updates in the context menu.

Note: If you have an information card turned off, you will not see rotating taskbar updates related to that information card.

How to Have Only the Weather Icon Show on Your Windows Taskbar

You may have several apps or files pinned to the taskbar for easy access. And in case you're short of space on the taskbar, you can choose to have the temperature text removed from the News and Interests icon, and show only the weather icon on the taskbar.

To do that, shift to the icon-only mode like this: right-click any blank space on the taskbar and select News and interests. In the menu that opens select Show icon only.
