Google has pushed out some key new features to the latest version of Chrome for iOS and iPadOS. This update focuses primarily on security and convenience, to further improve your browsing experience.

So, if you use Chrome on the iPhone or iPad, be sure to head to the App Store and update your app to version 103 to enjoy the new additions.

1. Enhanced Safe Browsing

You may be familiar with the Safe Browsing service in Chrome that protects you and your device from dangerous sites. With Chrome 103, you get Enhanced Safe Browsing, which protects you from phishing and malware attacks as well.

Enhanced protection was previously limited to desktop and Android devices, but the iOS and iPadOS version of the app has finally caught up in terms of security. The next time you visit a dangerous site, Chrome will proactively warn you to keep you say.

Furthermore, when you type in your login details in a website, the app will alert you if your username or password was leaked in a data breach. You can find this setting by going to Settings > Google Services > Safe Browsing within Chrome.

2. Chrome AutoFill in Other Apps

Many iPhone and iPad users rely on the iCloud Keychain to automatically fill in passwords and login forms across various apps installed on their devices. However, this meant that Chrome users were out of luck, as all the passwords you saved to Google Chrome were unusable outside the browser.

With Chrome 103, this should no longer be a problem as you can set Chrome as your default AutoFill provider in iOS or iPadOS. To do this, simply head over to Settings > Passwords > Password Options and tap on Chrome to select it instead of iCloud Passwords & Keychain.

3. Pick Up Where You Left Off and Discover

If you use Chrome on your iPhone or iPad, chances are you also use Chrome on your computer. So, it’s important for Google to ensure that you can seamlessly switch between your devices without hindering your browsing experience, and this is exactly what this new change seems to do. Chrome 103 makes it easier to return to your recent tab with a single tap, right from the home page.

Another addition is an all-new Discover section that helps you find new content to browse, which includes articles, news, and more. The content you see here is relevant to your search activity, so you can be sure to find something interesting. However, you can always turn it off if you don’t fancy this. In its blog post, Google confirmed that the feature would also come to Android pretty soon.

4. Language Translation Improvements

Google is also working on making websites available in your local language with changes to its translation feature. So, let’s say you live in Spain or France; you’ll have instant translation options to convert webpages you visit into Spanish or French.

The search giant says that Chrome will use on-device machine learning to figure out whether the site you visited requires translation or not.

5. Chrome Actions

Chrome 103 marks the initial rollout of Chrome Actions for iOS and iPadOS devices. This feature made its way to Android devices with Chrome 101 earlier in 2022, but iPhone users no longer need to feel left out.

Instead of fiddling with the settings, you can simply type phrases for various actions into the address bar and save time. For example, you can type “delete history” into the search field to see the relevant Chrome Action and other suggestions.
