Amazon had a busy day, as the company announced a huge refresh of its line of tablets. There's a brand new Fire HD 10 model with vastly improved specs over the previous generation. Amazon also released a new Fire HD 10 Plus, which takes the idea of an affordable 10-inch tablet and gives it a little extra power while still maintaining a reasonable price tag.

But that wasn't all Amazon announced today, as the company also revealed new tablets specifically targeted at younger users.

Amazon's New Fire HD 10 and Fire HD 10 Plus

Starting with the big tablet, Amazon revealed the new $149.99 Fire HD 10. The company has made the device look more like other tablets released in 2021. That means it slimmed down the device and vastly decreased the size of the bezels, creating a more appealing screen-to-body ratio.

Amazon didn't just make its 10-inch tablet look better. The company also jacked up the RAM a bit, bringing the memory up to 3GB. Amazon said the tablet runs on a "powerful octa-core 2.0 GHz processor." However, so did the previous Fire 10 tablet, so it's not clear whether Amazon is using a new chip or not.

The new tablet still features a 1080p screen, but Amazon claims that it's brighter than before.

The Fire HD 10 Plus introduces some nice changes, and it only increases the price tag to $179.99.

First, you'll get an extra GB of RAM, going from 3GB to 4GB. You also get wireless charging, which is a really nice bonus to have for the extra cost. Again, Amazon didn't elaborate on the processor, though the company didn't mention an upgrade between this and the regular Fire HD 10.

While not a performance improvement, the Fire HD 10 Plus also gets a premium finish, which Amazon describes as a "soft touch, slate-colored finish for a high-quality feel."

The company also announced a new Productivity Bundle that includes Fintie-designed keyboard cases and a one-year subscription to Microsoft 365 for $219.99. You can also get the keyboard case on its own for $49.99.

Amazon also introduced a new productivity feature to Fire OS with the introduction of split-screen multitasking.

Amazon's New Kids Tablets

Amazon's new line of kids tablets is called Fire Kids Pro. These tablets come in three different versions. First, you can get a relatively small seven-inch model for $99.99. From there, the price jumps to $139.99 for an eight-inch model and $199.99 for a 10-inch device.

All of the kid-friendly tablets come with protective cases with a built-in kickstand.

The OS is heavily modified for the kid-friendly tablets, with a special app store that allows kids to request app downloads, a browser that provides what Amazon describes as "open but filtered" web access, and more.

New Fire Tablet Availability

Amazon says that all tablets and their associated accessories will start shipping on May 26, so you won't need to wait too long to snag one if any tickles your fancy.
