Have you ever received an email from Nintendo about Platinum Points and wondered what on Earth they are?

If you answered yes to the above question, this is the guide for you. Here, we will walk you through what My Nintendo Platinum Points are, how to use them, and how to keep track of them, so you don't miss out on any of your hard-earned rewards.

What Are My Nintendo Platinum Points?

You may have heard of My Nintendo Gold Points before, but the My Nintendo Rewards program also has another points system: Platinum Points.

These operate differently from My Nintendo Gold Points. Unlike their Gold cousins, which you collect by buying Nintendo games, Platinum Points are received by completing missions for Nintendo. Almost like side-quests in a real-life video game—minus the danger.

How Do I Collect My Nintendo Platinum Points?

Nintendo has a whole host of quests for you to complete in return for your Platinum Points. Some of these quests are so simple that they can be completed by accident, like connecting your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account or receiving a promotional email from Nintendo.

You can check your side-quests or claim points you've already received by checking in on the My.Nintendo website.

  1. Log in to your My.Nintendo account.
  2. Click Earn Points located just underneath your points jars.
  3. Select Nintendo Services from the list.
  4. Here you will be taken to your Platinum Points mission list. You may have unknowingly completed some of these quests already. If so, there will be a big red button underneath the mission labeled Collect Points. Press this button to claim your points.
  5. Press Mission Details underneath each mission to bring up a detailed description of what is required.

From there, simply complete your missions, and head back to the list on the My.Nintendo website to collect your points.

Many Platinum Point missions can only be completed once. But there are also plenty of weekly missions available such as backing up your save data, so there will always be more missions for you to complete.

How Do I Spend My Nintendo Platinum Points?

Not only does the way you collect Platinum Points differ from Gold Points, but the way you spend them is different as well. Platinum Points can only be spent online to receive exclusive Nintendo collectibles, digital wallpapers, or even new icon elements for your Nintendo Switch.

Here's how you can spend your My Nintendo Platinum Points:

  1. Log into your My.Nintendo account.
  2. Select Redeem Points.
  3. Here you will be provided with a list of categories you can choose from. Select your desired reward from one of these categories.
  4. Select Redeem to complete your purchase.

Depending on your purchase, you will then be prompted to either download the reward data or enter your shipping details if you purchased a physical item from the Nintendo store.

If you are looking to spend your points on some funky new user icons, you can access online missions and rewards straight from your Nintendo Switch.

How to Track Your My Nintendo Platinum Points

To check all of your Platinum Points data, including when your points will expire and your balance, follow the instructions below:

  1. Log into your My.Nintendo account.
  2. Your points balance will be written on your jars. Select your Platinum Points jar for more details.
  3. To check your point's expiration date, select Point Summary.
