When users land on the fake giveaway page, they are offered the chance to claim their reward by clicking on the "Claim Reward" button and following the instructions outlined on the page. When they click the button, they are redirected to a page with software to download.

The user downloads the software by following the instructions on the download webpage. When the download completes, users are asked to enter their PayPal registered email address, where they could receive the cash prize; however, scammers only lure you into revealing your email address.

How Do Scammers Benefit From the MrBeast Giveaway Pop-Up Scam?

Here are several ways scammers can profit from this scam:

• The software you download may contain malware like ransomware, which can wreak havoc on your computer. Once you fall victim to it, you'll have to pay a ransom to access your data. That's one method scammers may use to make money. If you don't pay, you're locked out of your system and the scammers could sell your data on too.
• Your PayPal registered email address, which you share to receive your cash prize, is another asset scammers could access. They can now send you phishing links in the same email to gain access to your PayPal account or sell your account information to cybercriminals.

Scammers ask victims to click on the ad and check the video description for more information about how to receive the supposed award. When victims click on this ad to see the description, they are taken to a YouTube video.

In that video's description, scammers direct victims to click a link to redeem their giveaway prize. When victims click on this link, they are taken to the fake giveaway website, where further traps await them—the same traps discussed above.

If you encounter such an advertisement, follow the earlier tips to avoid being a victim. If you've clicked on this ad and landed on the scammers' YouTube channel, don't visit any website scammers direct you to. If you have already visited the fraudulent website, take the above steps to prevent further damage to your privacy.

How to Report an Advertisement on YouTube

To report the ad, click on the Info icon (represented by a small "i" enclosed in a circle, placed right next to the ad timer) and click on Report Ad.

Then, on the ad reporting page, select An ad violates Google Ads policies > It's misleading or a scam.

After that, enter your email address and click the Submit button.

Once submitted, YouTube will review the report and most likely block the ad and remove the YouTube channel from which it's running.

The scammers often keep the video used in the advertisement unlisted on their channel so that no one can find it. So, if you've already closed the ad, don't waste time finding it again. If you remember the YouTube channel name, you can search for it, and if you find it, you can report the channel to YouTube.

Follow these steps to report the scammers' YouTube channel:

1. Sign in to YouTube if you haven't already.
2. Go to the YouTube channel you want to report.
3. Go to the About tab.
4. Click on the flag icon in the right pane.
5. Click Report user.

8. If the video scammers are using is listed on the channel, select it. If not, click Next without selecting any specific video.
