Mobvoi came to CES 2021 to announce the public launch of its successfully crowdfunded Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture. The AI-powered true wireless earbuds support both multi-touch and head gesture controls. What's more, you'll love their battery life!

Advanced AI Features

The Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture aren't the first earbuds with gesture controls. Mobvoi, a company founded by former Googlers, first introduced the TicMotion feature with its TicPods 2 Pr0. To interact with phone calls, nod twice to pick up and share your head twice to reject an incoming call.

The second AI-powered feature found both in the new Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture and the TicPods 2 Pro is dual-mic noise isolation. The dual microphones can detect over 6,000 sound characteristics and eliminate ambient noise during phone calls to deliver crystal-clear audio.

Using the multi-touch controls you can also summon digital voice assistants such as Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa.

Incredible Battery Life

On a single charge, the Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture yield respectable 10 hours of playback or seven hours of talk time. With the charging case, you'll get up to 50 hours total, which is incredible. To our knowledge, that is the best battery life on the market right now. One of the previous champions in this domain, the Creative Outlier Gold, reached 14 hours per charge and 39 hours total.

An impressive battery life means the product had to cut back on features or specs elsewhere.  At 5.49 oz (130 g), for example, the charging case is on the heavy side. The Creative Outlier Gold mentioned above gets away with 1.90 oz (54 g).

Also don't expect these earphones to sound great. They pack 6mm moving coil drivers, which is the cheapest possible driver you can find. Moreover, the Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture don't sport active noise cancellation, though a tight-fitting silicone ear tip can facilitate passive noise-cancelling.

The good news is that you can use the Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture independently of each other, but you can't connect to more than one device at a time. They're also IPX5 rated, meaning they're water- and sweat-resistant. In other words, you could shower with these earphones, but you can't go swimming with them; that requires an IPX7 rating.

When Will the Mobvoi Earbuds Be Available?

The Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture will be available on Amazon for $89.99, though you can still get them on Indiegogo for $79, with free shipping included. On Indiegogo, you can also grab a discounted bundle with the TicWatch Pro 2020 for $289. We recently reviewed the TicWatch Pro 3 by the same company.

Mobvoi was founded by former Google employees and is backed by both Google and Volkswagen. We can expect impressive products to emerge from this company. If you care about the sound of your earphones, however, we would hold back on this particular product for now.
