Microsoft is planning a huge future revamp of Windows 10 in the future, but it appears the company doesn't want to twiddle its thumbs until the update's release date is finalized. The software giant has announced that Windows 10 will receive some taskbar changes and tweaks to some well-loved areas of the operating system.

What Is Microsoft Doing to the Windows 10 Taskbar?

You can see all the juicy details for yourself on the Windows Insider Blog. That does mean that this update isn't on the main branch of Windows 10 just yet, but anyone with an Insider build of the operating system can hop on and give the new features a test drive.

The update is pretty feature-packed, so you'll have a lot to try out if you're on the Insider program. For one, the taskbar now has a new lick of paint and will show you news and relevant interests as they arrive. If you've seen the news feed on a newer Android device, it looks similar to that.

If it begins showing you some news that you don't care much for, you can tell the taskbar to stop showing you feeds of that nature. Over time, you can sculpt your feed as a useful source of information about worldly happenings.

If you're not a fan of news, don't fret. The taskbar will also support weather updates and sports results as they come in.

What Else Is Included in the Windows 10 Insider Update?

You may also be pleased to know that Microsoft is revamping how you manage your storage in Windows 10. You can now add and remove disks from the Settings app, customize storage spaces, and optimize the drives.

At the time of writing, the storage enhancements are only available to a select few in the Insider Dev build. However, Microsoft does want to roll it out to more Insiders in the future.

Also, Windows 10 will adjust your time and date, depending on what timezone you're in. If it's fairly confident that you've changed timezones, it'll automatically update the time and let you know that it did so through a notification. If it's a bit unsure, it'll instead prod you via a notification to see if you want to update it or not.

All of these changes come only a few days after Microsoft let slip that it was planning a "sweeping visual rejuvenation" for Windows 10. As such, 2021 may become the year that Windows 10 gets a lot of interesting new features.

An Exciting Year for Windows 10

If this Insider build is anything to go by, there's a lot to look forward to for Windows 10 updates. Who knows what else will arrive for the operating system?

If you're interested in what's arriving for Windows 10, you should definitely give the Insider builds a try. For instance, a recent Insider update had some handy features for Office users.
