Microsoft is preparing for a Surface launch event that's going to take place this spring. In addition to a Surface, it's expected the company will announce the launch of a webcam. This is not the first time Microsoft will be launching a web camera, though.

Microsoft Launching a New Webcam

As first reported by Petri, Microsoft is planning to release quite a few peripherals in its Surface launch event, one of which is a web camera.

This isn't the first time Microsoft is launching a webcam. They launched one many years ago, but that's obviously obsolete now and isn't something you would be interested in.

Features in Microsoft's New Webcam

Since it's 2021 now, people expect their webcams to do a lot and Microsoft already knows this. It's expected the new webcam will come with several cutting-edge features to ensure it's relevant today as well as for the years to come.

While we don't know for sure what features you're going to see in this upcoming webcam, there are some speculation as to what it will boast.

A Privacy Cover to Protect Your Privacy

The new Microsoft webcam is expected to come with a privacy cover that will help you cover the camera when you're not using it.

This means you won't have to go around looking for something to block that camera from looking at you.

Support for HDR Videos

The webcam will likely come with support for high dynamic range (HDR) videos. This will help produce more realistic visuals in your videos.

No Support for 4K

While most users these days look for cameras that have at least 4K support, it seems Microsoft's new webcam won't have support for 4K resolution. This doesn't mean the end of the world but you'll definitely miss out on sharper details that you get with a 4K camera.

Microsoft's Other Announcements

Microsoft plans to announce some audio-related items as well. It's highly likely you'll be able to use these with Microsoft's new webcam to improve your online video sessions.
