If you like using apps within Microsoft Teams, but you're not a fan of everything being stuck inside one window, you're in luck. Microsoft has rolled out an update for Teams which allows users to pop out their favorite apps from the main window.

The Arrival of Pop-Out Apps in Microsoft Teams

The feature has been in the works for a little while now. We first heard of it in an announcement on the Tech Community blog all the way back in May 2020.

Now you can finally see this feature for yourself in Microsoft Teams. As spotted by Twitter user @RandyChapman, pop-out apps are now in the wild and ready to use.

By the looks of the Tweet, popping out an app is simple and easy to do. Just right-click the app you'd like to separate from Teams, then click "Pop out app." The app will appear in its own independent window, which you can monitor at all times.

Does Microsoft Want a One-Stop-Shop for Its Services?

This is quite a small addition as far as updates go, but it's potentially a single brick in a much larger house that Microsoft is trying to build here.

We've seen signs of Microsoft bringing its services into Teams one by one. For instance, in March 2021, you'll be able to integrate emails from Outlook into Teams so people can discuss its contents.

It's possible that Microsoft doesn't want Teams users to feel the need to leave the program for any reason. By allowing apps to pop out like this, it stops users from needing to boot up Tasks or OneNote if they want to see it in a separate window.

If this theory turns out to be true, Teams may become the one piece of software you'll need to have installed to use all of Microsoft services. From writing documents to creating polls, Microsoft Teams will likely have it all.

A Strong Competitor in the Remote Working Scene

From now on, if you want to use an app separate from Microsoft Teams, you can now pop it out into its own window. Now you have less reason to open apps outside of Teams, which may be a sign of Microsoft's plans for the software.

That's not to say that Microsoft has focused purely on implementing its services into Teams. The remote working software has also enjoyed some handy features, such as a built-in AI-driven noise cancellation for noisy households.
