If you like using Microsoft Teams on your mobile, you'll be pleased to know that there's a new update that will add extra functionality to your app. Strangely enough, the features you'll receive depend on if you're using the Android or iOS version of the app.

What's Coming for Microsoft Teams on Android and iOS

OnMSFT spotted both updates as they appeared on each app store. Each update seems to have been released on the same day but contains wildly different contents.

If you're using the Android app, you'll have a revamped calling system to look forward to. As per the Android Google Play app, Microsoft Teams has the following under its "What's New" section:

Receive calls from any Teams account you’re signed in to, regardless of which account you’re active in.

This is fantastic news for anyone who likes using Microsoft Teams for calls. Previously, Microsoft Teams got a major call update that added some amazing new features to the app. Now, it doesn't matter which account you're on; people can contact you on your Android phone without issue.

The iOS version, on the other hand, receives a smorgasbord of different features. As stated on the iOS App Store app for Microsoft Teams, under "What's New:"

Control meeting options directly from the meeting details tab. Better search results for meetings. Search phrases like “next meeting”, “strategy meeting”, etc. Mobile meeting attendees can join Breakout rooms. Teams defaults to your device’s theme setting.

In case you're unsure, a "Breakout room" is like a sub-room that a meeting organizer can create for their meeting. These rooms allow for smaller groups of individuals to meet up and chat more personally than simply bundling everyone into the same room.

Beforehand, if you attended a meeting using iOS, you couldn't participate in a Breakout room. Now, however, you can join them to your heart's content no matter where you are.

Staying Up-to-Date No Matter Where You Are

Whether you use the Android or iOS version of Microsoft Teams, you should see an update roll out for you, albeit different from what the other camp got. Android now has an easier time handling calls from multiple accounts, while iOS has a nice bundle of features, including Breakout room compatibility.

If you like taking Teams wherever you go, but you have a spotty cellular connection around the places you visit, keep your eyes on Teams soon. Microsoft will release a new feature that lets you queue up messages while offline, to be sent when you re-establish an internet connection.
