Microsoft has warned us for months that this day would come, and now it has finally arrived. The software giant has cut support for Microsoft Legacy Edge, and now is a fantastic time to switch browsers if you're still using it.

What Is Microsoft Legacy Edge?

It's worth noting that Microsoft isn't stopping support for Chromium Edge. You'll know if you're using the Chromium version of Edge if it uses a swirly logo that transitions from green to blue. It should look a little like a lower-case E.

Legacy Edge, however, looks like a solid-blue lower-case E with a cut through it. That's the version that's being sunsetted, so if you're using the Chromium version, you're totally safe for the foreseeable future.

There is a myriad of good reasons why Microsoft decided to ax Legacy Edge. However, one of the biggest reasons is that the new Chromium Edge is so much better than its Legacy counterpart. As such, there's no reason to keep both alive anymore.

In fact, back when Chromium Edge first hit the internet, we compared Legacy Edge to it and found the Chromium version to be a lot better. Given how Chromium Edge was only a few months old at the time of the comparison, it showed just how much Legacy Edge lagged behind the competition.

If you want to keep using Microsoft's browsers, never fear; you should already have the new Chromium Edge installed on your PC. This is because Microsoft added Chromium Edge into the core of Windows 10, making it harder to uninstall again.

So, if you're one of the eight people in the world who will miss Legacy Edge, you should have everything you need to jump over to the new Edge experience and get back to browsing.

Microsoft Edge Is Dead, Long Live Microsoft Edge

Starting from today, Microsoft has officially stopped supporting the Legacy version of its Edge browser. If you were one of its few devoted fans, now is a superb time to move onto the Chromium version, which is a lot better than its aged brethren.

Not only that, but the Chromium version of Edge receives a lot of updates to get it up to speed with its rival browsers. For instance, a recent update brought vertical tabs into the main branch, which is a must-try for any tabaholic.
