The new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge has been the company's best browser in a very long time, and it's taking the fight to the competition. Microsoft has recently disclosed that its browser has hit the 600 million user mark, and it's aiming to get even more.

Microsoft's Huge Claim for It's Edge Browser

You'd think such a huge claim would appear on a big announcement on Microsoft's blogs, but the reveal was a lot more humble than that. WinCentral discovered a job listing on Microsoft Careers that used the statistic as a selling point to attract a principal software engineer (emphasis ours):

Microsoft Edge declared a while back that it will be making the web better through more open source collaboration while Edge promises to continue to enable customers to do more. With the general availability Edge has already reached 600 million customers and is taking a fresh approach to browsing by putting the end user at the center and meeting the user where they are, shipping on Windows 10, down level Windows, Mac and Android.

It's unknown how Microsoft is getting its numbers, but it's not too far fetched to believe it has reached such heights. The browser recently overtook Firefox in the US browser market, and now it's beginning to take a slice of Chrome's pie.

Microsoft Is Slowly Edging Toward Google Chrome

While Chrome is still sitting on its lofty throne as the most-used browser in the world, Microsoft Edge is determined to change that. Will the browser have what it takes to beat the browser it's based on?

That's not to say that Edge's popularity isn't well-deserved. Microsoft has put a lot of love and attention into Edge's features, such as introducing a new "sleeping tabs" feature.
