As the new Chromium version of Microsoft Edge becomes Windows 10's default browser, the company is working hard to bring it up to speed with the rest of its competition. Now, a brand new download manager is making its way to the browser.

Microsoft's Plans for the New Edge Download Manager

This development was spotted by Reddit user Leopeva64-2 over on the Edge subreddit. The new feature was discovered in the Canary version of Edge, where features coded the day before are uploaded for users to test.

Edge Canary is a great way to get a sneak peek as to what Microsoft is doing with its browser. For instance, we learned about Edge's new warning about closing multiple tabs via the Canary branch.

Edge Canary users can now pin the download manager to the browser toolbar. From here, the user can click on the button to see download speeds, pause downloads, or open them once they're downloaded.

If you'd rather not have your downloads hogging your browser's toolbar, you can turn off the feature and force it to slink back into the depths once more. However, if you want to give it a try, be sure to grab Edge Canary and try it for yourself.

An Easier Time Downloading With Microsoft Edge

Microsoft is keen to get its new Edge in the spotlight, and it's doing a good job at bringing the basics onto its browser. What else does the company have planned for its browser? Only time will tell.

If you do grab the Edge Canary build, you'll find a few nice features waiting for you that you won't find on the main branch. For instance, you can customize Edge's theme on Canary.
