As Microsoft gears up to make Edge a major competitor in the browser scene, it's working hard to ensure the browser is not only on every platform possible but has all the features of the main branch too. As such, the Redmond giant has just updated the Android version of Microsoft Edge Canary with a screenshotting tool, despite it still being a work-in-progress.

Microsoft's Latest Update to Edge Canary on Android

As spotted by Windows Central, the newest update to Microsoft Edge Canary on Android brings the screenshotting tool into the mix. This feature mimics the tool on desktop Edge that lets you quickly and easily take pictures of websites without needing to install anything else.

However, unlike the desktop Edge's version of the screenshotting tool, this one is still very much a work-in-progress. This is because Microsoft Edge Canary is designed to test features finished up the day before, and the app itself only landed in April 2021.

For instance, the screenshot tool should let you edit the picture without leaving the browser. While the Edge Canary version of this tool does have an "edit" button, it doesn't work just yet.

However, despite it being early days still, it is a good sign that Microsoft doesn't want its Edge browser for Android to exist as an "Edge lite." It's easy for a browser developer to port its product to a mobile device, only to leave it barren of features and improvements that the desktop version has.

However, Microsoft is giving every version of Edge its fair share of love. Edge fans should keep their eyes on the Canary build on Google Play as more features from the desktop version make their way onto Android.

Taking a Shot at Screenshots on Android

As Microsoft guns to make Edge a new standard in the browser scene, the tech giant is keen to get the browser on every platform possible with all of the features still intact. Android users will soon get a fully-fledged screenshotting tool for the Edge app... just as soon as Microsoft has finished programming it, that is.

In fact, Microsoft is so dedicated to the Android market that it recently released the third piece of the Edge trifecta. The company recently added the Dev version of Edge to the app store, which is ideal for people who want to test new features but would rather skip out on the bugs and missing elements.
