Microsoft has announced that its new Math Solver is available as a preview feature for testers and developers on Edge 91. The new feature will, as the name suggests, help to solve math problems.

Microsoft Releases Math Solver as an Edge Preview Feature

In a press release, Microsoft has announced that its new Math Solver feature is available as a preview feature on Edge 91. The feature has been released on the Canary, Beta, and Dev builds of the latest version of Edge (91). Math Solver is designed to help students to solve math problems, similarly to other online tools such as Google Lens.

Math Solver already exists as an online tool and that Microsoft released. Users can upload a photo of a math problem and the tool will solve it. The feature being tested in the latest builds implements the tool into the Edge browser.

Users can upload a photo of a math problem straight from Edge. The AI behind the tool will then provide an answer and instructions on how to solve the problem. There is also a mathematical keyboard for questions, so users don't need to take a photo.

Earlier this year, Microsoft was seen testing the feature in a previous version of the Canary build for Edge. Having the feature rolled out to the Beta and Dev builds suggests that the feature might come to a full release soon.

Microsoft said that the feature may never be released and that it is "still exploring the possibility of including the feature permanently in the future". Despite this, the feature will be released as a preview in the Stable build of Edge 91, so it still looks like Microsoft plans to go ahead with the feature.

Who Is Math Solver For?

Math Solver was designed for students, Microsoft makes this clear. Students already use the internet to help with work and with a large amount of learning moved online, it makes perfect sense to integrate such a tool directly into the browser.

As with any feature, anyone can use Math Solver to help with math problems when needed. Its unlikely that anyone other than students will need the feature regularly, but is a useful addition to have.

Microsoft Is Making Edge More Useful

We already know that Microsoft has turned its attention to Edge as the main browser, so it makes sense to add new features to the browser. Useful new features such as Math Solver will help Edge stand out from competitor browsers.

Students will also benefit from a helping hand with math problems–that can always be handy.
