Users from all over the world were affected by the 2019 Facebook leak... including some that you probably wouldn't expect.

That Facebook Data Leak Included Even That of Facebook's CEO

On Saturday, cyber researcher Dave Walker tweeted out a little bit of bittersweet irony: apparently, even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was one of the 533 million users affected by the recent re-release of the 2019 Facebook leak data.

Zuckerberg was not the only person from Facebook affected either; the personal information of co-founders Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz was also in the database.

According to The Sun, among Zuckerberg's leaked data was his full name, phone number, location, marriage details, date of birth, and Facebook user ID.

We first learned about the millions of compromised Facebook accounts through a Twitter thread by cybercrime investigator Alon Gal. He says that the original leak happened likely because of a now-patched vulnerability in the Add Friends feature.

What Should Facebook Do From Here On Out?

When Facebook started making headlines again for yet another data leak, a spokesperson eventually came forward on the social network's behalf to say that the issue in question was patched years ago.

That response seemed to anger more people than it pleased, and understandably so. In addition to increasing its security, Facebook needs to stop previous data leaks from being continuously shared.
