Alarm.com has been busy releasing several new products at CES 2021. We'd already touched on the new touchless doorbell when we looked at Ring's new end-to-end encryption security features. Today, it's time to put the company's new Flex IO Sensor under the microscope.

What Is the Flex IO Sensor?

The big selling point of Alarm.com's new product is the LTE-M compatibility. That means the device will operate anywhere that LTE signal is available and thus greatly increases the range of your system.

For example, if you have front gates, a shed, or a garage that sits a long way from your main property, this sensor will still work.

Here's how the company's CEO, Alison Slavin, described the new release:

The Flex IO sensor expands the boundaries of smart property monitoring while redefining the uses for an activity sensor. It’s an extremely versatile solution that’s ready for the challenge of what home or business owners want to monitor without being restricted by location.

Of course, because it runs on LTE, you do not need a control panel, hub, or an available Wi-Fi signal to make the device work.

How Does the Flex IO Sensor Work?

Importantly, the Flex IO Sensor doesn't only use an LTE signal to connect to the rest of your smart security system, but it also relies on battery power. As such, you don't need to worry about placing the sensor in areas where mains power is available. Batteries will last for two years before you need to replace them.

The device is also weatherproofed and won't be damaged by rain or direct sunlight, and there's a magnetic attachment so you can attach the devices directly to metal entrance gates without the need for screws or welding.

There is even a wired magna-loop input option. It means the Flex IO Sensor is suitable for high-value free-standing objects such as bikes and lawnmowers; if someone moves them, you will get an alert on your phone.

The device is available now from selected suppliers.

More Home Security at CES 2021

While Alarm.com has been busy releasing new products at CES 2021, they are far from being the only new smart security devices on show.

We've also seen Owl provide a shipping date for its new connected home security system, the introduction of Trova's high-tech smart security box, and the release of the seventh gadget in the Nooie range—a smart doorbell camera.

Today is the last day of CES 2021, so be sure to stay with us throughout the day as we close out the biggest news from the annual event.
