Is there an add-on/extension/software through which I can lock my browsers, Firefox and Chrome. Something which would prompt a password when someone opens browser, but locks automatically when closed.

For firefox:Go to Tools > Options > Security > Change Master Password (or add master password..)It's easy...

Not that easy..............Your method does NOT meet the ops requirements, it only locks stored passwords.
