I have been using Windows 7. One day I was listening to a song, then I got a song having no default player, written Skype on it. I opened it with VLC media player.
Surprisingly, all my desktop shortcuts converted into VLC file as default. So to open a file I have to open it with "openwith" then with corresponding program. I changed the default program, for example for Adobe files I changed the default program from VLC to Adobe reader. However, after doing this all program shortcuts converted into Adobe reader files as default.
Please tell me how I can fix that!

Gaugin,I have answered similar question already, see
How can I change for fix .lnk file associations on Windows 7?
As Saikat recommended, make sure to backup the registry before applying the fix. The Export option will do the backup.

I searched online for the solution to your problem and it seems there are people who have faced the same errors. The good news is that there's a fix. Check out the link- http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-7/It's a registry fix so do a registry backup before merging the reg file. Of course, read the article in full and then apply the patch. As I am not facing this error, I could not try it out myself.

Try changing screen color depth to 16-bit, applying it, then change it back.http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/258-color-bit-depth-display-settings.htmlI believe that resets the icon cache, it did with XP.
