I never knew LightScribe has the burn-your-label function; my DVD writer here is Lightscribe and I rarely use it. Aside from the burn-your-label function, I think its the only feature notable with LightScribe.

The result are quite interesting but due of the technology limitations, monochrome, so it's up to you to decide whether Lightscribe is useful enough or you may opt for a CD/DVD printer.

Lightscribe writer allows you to burn data and at the same time put some images on the top of the disk making it personalized.

You can only use lightscribe DVDs with a lightscribe burner, because the disks have to be coated with a special reactive dye that reacts with the laser to create the images. It is believe though, that the etching the lightscribe creates starts to fade after 2 years.

A LightScribe DVD writer allows you to burn the data onto the disk, take the disk out, flip it over and then burn a label/image/text onto the disk. The benefits include that you don't have to write using a pen on the disk, and you don't need to print out an sticker and put it on the disk. Here are some examples of what they look like http://www.google.com.au/images?hl=en&q=lightscribe&um=1&ie=UTF-8

Basically is a technology that, using the appropriate media, allow you to "engrave" the label of the DVDs you burn. You have to burn the media and after that turn the DVD down and the laser will engrave on the special surface the label (text, image) of your choice. The result are quite interesting but due of the technology limitations, monochrome, so it's up to you to decide whether Lightscribe is useful enough or you may opt for a CD/DVD printer.Look for "lightscribe examples" so you'll see some examples of the finish you could get.Cheers from Spain.

A Lightscribe writer is used to label a dvd optically. It can even make an "black and white" (eteched) image on the disk. Instead of worrying what is on a disk and having to mark with a marker or print a label the etching process permanently marks the disk with either text (rare) or an image. Most people take advantage of the drawing process to put a Title and Picture marking.

LabelFlash is another option to LightScribe. LightScribe was invented by a guy from Hewlett Packard while LabelFlash is from NEC (Japan).

From the LightScribe website : LightScribe is an innovative technology that uses a special disc drive, special media, and label-making software to burn labels directly onto CDs and DVDs. Because the labels are laser-etched—not printed—there's no ink, no smudging, and no peeling.Your labels can be whatever you want them to be. Create one-of-a-kind designs with your own photos, text, and artwork using your label-making software. Or choose from the many free backgrounds the software provides. You may also visit LightScribe's Design Center for free downloadable designs. Does that answer your question?
