Movies Anywhere is a platform in the United States that collects together your digital movie purchases so that they're all stored in a single place.

It has now launched a service called Screen Pass, which lets you lend those movies to other people for free.

What Is Movies Anywhere?

Movies Anywhere is a Disney-owned platform which first launched under a different name in 2014.

It is also jointly operated by Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., and 20th Century Fox.

Movies Anywhere collects together your digital movie purchases from places like Amazon Video, Vudu, and Google Play. All you have to do is link those store accounts to Movies Anywhere. It's free to do, and, once connected, all eligible movies are available in a single place on Movies Anywhere.

Movies Anywhere has its own storefront, which then redirects you through to the digital retailer of your choice for purchase. You can also redeem digital codes from Blu-rays and DVDs.

How Do I Lend Movies to Other People With Screen Pass?

After a period of beta testing that began in March, Movies Anywhere has released a feature called Screen Pass to all its users.

According to TechCrunch, it was rushed through development to satisfy growing demand from people stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Screen Pass, you can grant others access to your digital movies for a temporary period. It doesn't cost you or the recipient anything, nor do you lose access to that movie yourself.

You simply invite someone (through SMS, email, or IM), which lasts seven days---if they don't have a Movies Anywhere account, they will be prompted to create one. They then have 14 days to begin watching. Once they start watching, the movie will expire after 72 hours.

You can share three different movies per month. To be eligible to use Screen Pass, you must purchase a movie from a connected participating digital retailer or redeem a digital code every six months.

Over 80 percent of the movies that you can link to Movies Anywhere can be shared with Screen Pass. This includes modern hits such as Ready Player One and Detective Pikachu, plus classics like Back to the Future and Groundhog Day.

Host a Watch Party With Movies Anywhere

Movies Anywhere also has a watch party feature called Watch Together, so you can view movies at the same time as others without being in the same room.

It's a feature that many platforms now offer, including the likes of Facebook, Hulu, and Twitch.
