These are the things I mainly do with my pc.

video convert (average speed will do)

play movies and music (hd)

Browse internet

a lot of typing stuff

and a lot of downloading

Thats not much but it should be fully compatible to 64 bit linux and run the latest unity 3D without any lagging graphics

It will be better if it comes with options for upgrading which i will do later

My Budget is not much the laptop should be within RS 25000

Your suggestions are highly appreciated

I was going to put System76 Gazelle, but it seems like other people had already put that. There's a giveaway of one going on here. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/system76-gazelle-professional-laptop-review-giveaway/

Well, any modern configuration should work. The main concern is the hardware drivers.Make sure you choose a machine whose hardware has a good driver support for Linux.Your machine should work fine with the generic drivers provided with the distro. However you may miss few advanced hardware features (eg: CUDA,HD Playback,Switchable Graphics etc), this is where you would require the driver support from the hardware vendor.A bit of research before buying would help, check the forums/sites of various distros for info on drivers for hardware you intend to buy.As your budget is 25K, the best option would be to go for a system powered by a 2nd Gen i3 or AMD Dual Core APU A4 processor. The former has a better processing power and the latter has a better built in GPU(Had driver issues on Linux earlier,Dunno about now).Once you are sure about the config ,look up the prices in Flipkart (or a good local retailer), Other important aspects to look for is warranty and after-sale support. As I mentioned earlier, research is the key. Take your time and decide.P.S : I am assuming that your from India. :)

That Gazelle76 featured in MUO a few days ago is pretty good. Don't remember the price, but it's 100% compatible with Ubuntu(you're talking about Unity so I assume you'll use that.)If you're not too picky then try Puppy Linux. It'd work with almost any hardware you have, even the older ones, and with some tweaking it's as pretty as you want. It's also compatible with Ubuntu repository. Cheaper solution, no need to buy new hardware.
