Looking at the top creative software available today, you'll find that a vast majority of programs either require you to sign up for a pricey subscription (we're looking at you, Adobe and Autodesk) or make a hefty one-time purchase (and now we're looking at you, Clip Studio Paint).
Neither of those options are terribly unreasonable requests, but it does make digital art a little less accessible. Luckily, there's always Krita, the painting software that you should be using if you can't afford the industry standard stuff.
Krita Arrives in the Epic Store
You can now get Krita, the professional digital painting app, on the Epic Games Store for $9.99. Krita runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and Chrome OS.
But Isn't Krita Free?
Krita is a free app, and always has been. You can download it from the official website without having to spend any money. That said, it's developed by a very small team—there are only four developers (Boudewijn, Dmitry, Tiar, and Ivan) working on Krita full-time.
Presumably, the developers want to keep Krita free, but also thought to provide artists with options to help support them if they like using the program. And so, buying Krita on Epic is but one way you can do that.
Consider Supporting The Krita Foundation
If for whatever reason you're picky about your digital distributors, Krita is available on Steam as well for the same price. Should you grab either one of the paid downloads, you'll also have the convenience of automatic updates.
You can also directly donate to the Krita development team. Majority of the donation funds goes towards adding new features and improving Krita on all platforms. The money also helps fund hardware, power user support, and travel (e.g. sending representatives to international conferences, developer sprints, etc.).
