I'm looking to buy a Kindle (thanks to e-ink) in Canada, to use in India.

I intend to use it primarily for PDFs I already have, but I've heard on user forums that PDFs don't render too well on the device. Anyone with first-hand experience who can tell if it's worth it?

Also, how convenient is it for an India resident to buy books directly from Amazon.com to read on the Kindle?

Hey, everyone, what's your take on the Nook? (With particular reference to my original questions.)

To answer your first question: So-So. You see PDF files are not like e-Books even if they do seem like it. The code is very different. In PDF's you are not allowed to increase the letter size but instead you zoom in. Basically a PDF is a bunch of images (like jpeg files or tiff files) pasted together to scroll down continiously. An e-Book is much more like Text document, thus you can adjust font size. Plus margins on a PDF are very rigid taking up plenty of reading space. An easy solution for reading PDF files on any e-Reader device is to use Calibre http://calibre-ebook.com/ to convert your PDFs into e-Book format and then transfer them to your device. Please take note that this issue is independant of the eReader or device of your choice (Nook, Kindle, iPad, etc.).As for you buying e-books through the Indian Amazon website well that is another different story. Due to copyright laws and what not some titles may not be available in Indian. What you can do is visit this Amazon page to browse e-Books available for the Indian market: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?kc=AH9CGK6QR37LL&qid=1303915567&rh=i%3Adigital-text%2Cn%3A1286228011&x=20&y=6&tag=muo-v2-4leq2e6-20&ascsubtag=UUmuoUeUpU85646&asc_refurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.makeuseof.com%2Fkindle-render-pdfs-buy-ebooks-amazoncom-india%2F&asc_campaign=EvergreenIf you pay close attention to that page you'll see a long list on your left-hand side of the screen and on top of it has a drop down menu that says "Your country or region" where you can select India to browse the e-Book catalogue for India.I recommend you check this Help Article from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200505530&tag=muo-v2-4leq2e6-20&ascsubtag=UUmuoUeUpU85646#shopamazon&asc_refurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.makeuseof.com%2Fkindle-render-pdfs-buy-ebooks-amazoncom-india%2F&asc_campaign=EvergreenTechnically you can buy what ever book you want from which ever market/region you choose if you use the appropriate payment method (Idian credit card for India market, US/Canada credit card for US/Canada market and so on). Plus there are plenty of ways to remove the DRM from books purchased from other stores so you can use those in your Kindle.Check this e-Book articles here on MUO:http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-convert-scanned-pages-into-ereader-ebook-format/http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-strip-mobi-and-prc-ebooks-of-encryption/http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/pdf-files-ereaderfriendly-briss/http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/calibre-ebook-management-synchronization-software-multi-os/Trying to get more eBooks?http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/manybooks-free-ebooks-pda-ipod-ebook-reader/
