I am not good at a lot of computer stuff. I want to buy a KVM (keyboard video mouse switch).
All I want to do is to use 3 computers, 3 monitors and 1 keyboard and 1 mouse. From the research I have been doing, I believe that the KVM is mainly for multiple monitors to 1 monitor. Can someone tell me if I can use a KVM to enter only one keyboard and one mouse and use the monitors connected directly to the PC?

claude,If you have three computers that you want to share the keyboard and mouse on, all you need is a simple program called Synergy. Each PC needs to be connected to a network/router for this to work. Just install the program on each of the computers, making one computer the server and the other 2 the clients.Once you get the program set up properly (you can find directions online), just start the program and you will be able to drag the mouse off of one screen onto the other ones. Here's the link:http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/And an article from MUO:http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/use-synergy-to-bring-your-computer-systems-together/

Thank you for your reply. The computers cannot be in the same network that why I was thinking for a hardware switch.Could you please help me to better understand if it is possible to use a KVM hardware switch to share only the keyboard and mouse.

claude,From what I've read regarding KVM switches it looks like it will work for you just fine. Check out this article to see exactly what a KVM switch is used for:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVM_switchIt does mention that you can share the monitor as well as the keyboard and mouse, which I'm not sure you'll need to do, but for your purposes it should be fine.
