Joker malware is one kind of malware that infects Android apps. It appeared on the official Google Play Store a few years ago, and it has recently been found on Huawei's AppGallery app store.

Your Huawei device could be infected if you've installed one of the malware-contained apps on your device.

What Is Joker Malware?

Unlike other malware, Joker malware doesn't annoy you much. Instead, it runs in the background and attempts to sign you up for as many paid subscriptions as possible. It does so by using various scripts that automatically subscribe to various apps' plans.

If a subscription requires an SMS verification, the malware accesses your messages and reads the verification code.

It basically causes monetary losses, and you could end up paying a huge amount of money if you don't take prompt action.

Joker Malware Infects Huawei Devices

BleepingComputer reports that over 500,000 Huawei devices are infected with Joker malware. This malware infected several apps on Huawei's AppGallery app store, and whoever installed those apps got affected.

Whether a user downloaded one or more of those infected apps, their phone became vulnerable and ready to be attacked.

How to Disinfect a Huawei Device From Joker Malware

If you're a Huawei device user, check your phone for one of the following infected apps. If you find any of these apps on your phone, uninstall them right away to prevent malware from spreading further.

  • Super Keyboard
  • Happy Colour
  • Fun Color
  • New 2021 Keyboard
  • Camera MX - Photo Video Camera
  • BeautyPlus Camera
  • Color RollingIcon
  • Funney Meme Emoji
  • Happy Tapping
  • All-in-One Messenger

On most phones, you can remove an app by heading into Settings > Apps, choosing the app to remove, and tapping Uninstall. If you have multiple infected apps installed, do this for each app.

To further secure your phone, run an antivirus scan on your phone after uninstalling the apps. This is to ensure any residual files are also removed from your device.

If you still see signs of malware, it's a good idea to reset your phone to the factory settings. This erases all of the content on your device, including any malware files. You can reset your phone from the Settings > System > Reset options menu.

Keep in mind that resetting your phone erases all your settings and files. You'll need to reconfigure your phone from scratch when it's reset.

Dealing With Joker Malware, Once Again

Joker malware is in action once again getting people to subscribe to various services unknowingly. If you use a Huawei device, take the appropriate steps to scan your phone and remove this malware. Not doing so may cause you monetary losses, as explained above.
