I was trying to play my game called Minecraft and I needed a Java update for my Mac. When I tried to update, Java said none are available, so I googled Java6 and downloaded it and installed it. Now when I try to start Minecraft it will begin to open but gives me an error. So, I thought I'd just downgrade back to what I have before. But I can't open Java at all to do that. It says "A static initializer of the main class threw an exception: java.lang.NullPointerException." Does anyone have a clue what this means?

Which Mac OS X version are you using? Where did you download Java? By default Java for Mac is only available via Software Update or the Apple support section. If you downloaded it somewhere else it probably wasn't the right one.Which Java version did you download and install?Java updates for Mac must be installed
