I love the way iTunes lets me tag, sort (by album, song, artist), and view my music, movies, and TV shows in different ways - by genre, title, rating, etc. and then I can make selected playlists.

I would love to be able to manage my Windows files in the same way, but I would of course need to define my own categories analogous to, say "Songs, Albums, Artists, Genre" (I'm running iTunes over Windows).

Can I somehow get iTunes to add a Library for .doc and .pdf files? If not, what's the best tool that comes closest to providing said features ?

I can't think of a specific product for personal use, but I think this would count as a "Document Management System", so google the term and see what comes up!
