I have a MacBook Pro and am wondering if I need to get Mac Keeper. I am not used to a Mac as I've always use PC in the past but heard that such a program is not needed. Any advice?

There are times where certain functions may be of use but in my own opinion there are other tools then which do the same job equally or better and cost less or nothing. On the surface tho it probably is a decent App and you get a nice package of functions for you money. If you are looking for something specific I suggest taking a peak at the Best of Mac Apps page.https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/best-mac-os-x-apps/

No, it's not necessary. The Mac has all it needs to look after itself on a daily basis, and if you get any utilities for it, they should either do their job extraordinarily well, or offer something the Mac doesn't do in the first place. MacKeeper falls into neither category. It's a bundle of utilities that partly replicate what the Mac does, and partly add functionality (cleaning, security) but not particularly well. See for example this review -- http://lureofmac.com/mackeeper-review-should-you-install-this-mac-utility-software/ .I do suggest you get an antivirus for your Mac (e.g. Sphos which is free). If you frequently install and uninstall software, a cleaning utility may be of use (but wait until you get there, as you're a newbie you don't need it yet!), Then there are fixing utilities like Disk Warrior, but again, there's no point in getting them until something goes wrong!

Mac Keeper is a terrible program and it's developers bribe people to write good reviews about it. It makes spam pop up in your browser and is super hard to get rid of. At least that' my experience of using the program. I recommend CCleaner - http://www.piriform.com/products and/or Magician - http://www.magicansoft.com/.
