Apple One is a subscription-based bundle of Apple's six premium services: Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+. Sometimes, bundling unpopular products with popular products can make the whole package seem more attractive than it should be. But is that happening with Apple One?.

Let’s look at different factors to help you decide if Apple One is worth purchasing.

Apple One Subscription Plans and Discounts

Apple One Pricing US

Apple One offers three different subscription plans.

The Individual plan combines Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple Arcade with 50GB of iCloud storage. It provides a $6 saving compared to paying for these services separately.

The Family plan gives you all the above, but with 200GB of iCloud storage. You can also share these services with five more people over Family Sharing and save $8 over paying for it all separately. You'll save even more if you split the cost between multiple people in your family.

The Premier plan also gets you Apple News+ and Apple Fitness+, along with family sharing, and 2TB of iCloud storage. You save $25 on a monthly subscription compared to paying for these services separately. Once again, you could save even more if you split the cost.

If you pay for all these separate services already, it definitely makes sense to go for Apple One to save on monthly subscriptions.

However, if you do not use one or more of these services, you should calculate their individual costs and exploring alternatives services to help decide if Apple One is still worth the price for you.

Let's look in more detail at what Apple One has to offer.

What Is in the Free Trial?

Apple One is available for a one-month free trial, including any service you have not already subscribed to. Unlike other software, there are no restrictions on the features and no ad interruptions. The free trial allows you to experience everything before buying.

We suggest you use the free trial to experience all the services, allowing you to decide which services you definitely want to use.

Let's do a deep dive into the individual benefits and their (potentially cheaper) alternatives below.

Apple Music

Apple Music Price US

The cost of purchasing Apple Music is $9.99/month or $14.99/month for a Family Sharing plan. In contrast, Spotify charges $9.99 for individuals, $12.99 for two members, and $15.99 for families. Spotify also offers a free ad-supported plan, which makes it an attractive competitor. Amazon and YouTube are also in the same price range.

Apart from cost and music collection, which is similar across other streaming services, there are other considerations to make. Spotify provides the best cross-device support, including smart speakers, TVs, and gaming consoles, and access to free and paid podcasts.

However, Apple Music gives you an advantage if you are already in the Apple ecosystem. The recently released lossless and spatial audio features, at no additional cost, provide an enhanced listening experience.

If you already pay for Apple Music, the Apple One bundle offers a good deal for individual and family plans. You can get three additional services for just $5.95 extra each month.

This means that for the cost of Apple Arcade, you also get Apple TV+ and iCloud storage. Alternatively, if you already pay for Apple Music and iCloud storage, you could use Apple One to get Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade for just $2 extra on the Family plan.

iCloud Storage

icloud Price US

Apple competes with Microsoft OneDrive, Google One, and numerous other service providers for cloud storage. iCloud provides 5GB of free storage and is integrated with iPhone, iPad, and other Apple products. However, Google provides the most generous free service, with 15GB storage at no cost, and it's also compatible with most devices.

While inbuilt integration makes iCloud an interesting proposition, it is worth comparing different cloud storage services based on your requirements.

Generally speaking, if you're only after cloud storage, you can definitely find cheaper options outside of Apple One.

Apple TV+

Apple TV Pricing US

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and YouTube are major players in video streaming. Apple TV+ is a relatively new streaming service and features a smaller range of shows, like The Morning Show and Ted Lasso.

Netflix is the most popular streaming service with a large collection of original and curated content. The ability to add programs to your watch list, get reminders of upcoming shows, and use different playback speeds constitute a great usability experience.

Disney+ offers movies and shows from popular productions like Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

In terms of cost, Netflix is $8.99 for the base plan, $13.99 for the standard plan, and $17.99 for the monthly premier plan. Disney+ costs $7.99, and Apple TV+ is just $4.99. You can access YouTube Music and YouTube for $11.99/month, and the family sharing option is available for $17.99/month.

While Apple TV+ is cheaper than other services, it has minimal content to compete on its own.

Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade Pricing US

Apple Arcade is another service that will benefit from bundling with Apple One. It is more popular amongst hardcore mobile gaming enthusiasts than its contemporaries. Outside of Apple One, Apple Arcade costs $4.99/month, the same as Google Play Pass.

The choice between Apple Arcade and Google Play Pass is device-dependent. The latter offers a yearly subscription for $30 and works on non-Apple devices as well. Netflix is also venturing into the gaming arena, which might give competition to Apple Arcade.

Apple News+

Apple News Pricing US

Apple News+ comes in the premier bundle and provides access to hundreds of premium magazines and leading newspapers. Tons of content that is usually behind a paywall is made accessible to Apple News+ readers. This can lure readers who pay individual subscriptions for magazines and struggle to keep track of the expenses.

You can save articles from Cosmopolitan, New York Times, or The Wall Street and read them offline mode. The interactive graphics and crisp images highlight the quintessential Apple experience. A standalone subscription to Apple News+ is priced at $9.99 per month.

Kindle Unlimited also offers the same features at the same price, but the user experience is not comparable with Apple News+. Unfortunately, Kindle Unlimited is not included in Amazon Prime's subscription of $6.99/month. However, you can try it for free before buying.

Apple Fitness+

Apple Fitness Procing US

Apple Fitness+ is Apple's newest service, offered at a monthly subscription of $9.99/month. The catch is that you need an Apple Watch series 3 or later to enjoy the service.

There are multiple alternative apps on the App Store for fitness, and if you are already accustomed to other apps to track your workouts, Apple Fitness+ might not be worth switching over to. Since the only way to get Apple Fitness plus with Apple One is on the Premium plan, you might be better off with a standalone subscription if you don't want to use the other services as well.

Is an Apple One Subscription Worth It?

With a $5 difference between the Individual and Family plans, you get extra storage and the ability to share the services with up to five other people.

You can switch from Family to Premier plan for $10 extra, getting you access to News+ and Fitness+ as well, along with 2TB of iCloud storage. This you essentially pay for Apple News+, but also get Apple Fitness + and extra iCloud storage for free. And it's all available for everyone in your Family Sharing group as well.

However, News+ and Fitness+ are both niche services, and if you are not planning to use every service, the Premier plan may not be worth it. For example, if you only plan to use Apple Music and Apple News+, it's cheaper to get them both as individual subscriptions than to sign up for Apple One Premium.
