At least in the United States, Spotify and Apple Music are the two leading streaming music services. If you're tied into the Apple ecosystem, however, Apple Music has a big advantage because it's more thoroughly baked into Apple's product offerings.

For instance, a person using Siri to request a song has, until now, been directed to Apple Music as default. But that's apparently changing with the new iOS 14.5 beta---with users now able to select different third-party music services, including Spotify, as their default music service.

Available on the iOS 14.5 Beta

As noted by MacRumors, the feature is currently only available to those on the beta version of the latest iOS version, although it will likely roll out to everyone in the near future.

The default music service can be selected when the user first asks Siri to play a track or an album. When they do, they will then be presented with the options of choosing different services as their standard. Not all users are reportedly finding the selection process works exactly the same for them. This suggests that Apple is still fine-tuning the feature.

Different Options Available

Nonetheless, it's a nice option to have. iOS 14 has made it easier for users to embrace third-party alternatives to Apple's default apps. For example, they can now choose different mail or browser clients. That's great news for anyone who wants a bit more choice when they use Apple operating systems. And who doesn't love choice?
