Apple has released an update to its iOS 14 mobile operating system. The update, version 14.3, adds support for the new Apple Fitness+ subscription service and AirPods Max headphones.

And that’s not all---especially if you’ve got a fancy new iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max at your disposal.

Apple’s New ProRAW Setting for iPhone 12 Pro Users

iOS 14.3 boasts support for Apple’s new ProRAW photo format for anyone with a top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro or the superb iPhone 12 Pro Max.

These ProRAW photos, which can take up to 25MB each, are a midpoint between the regular HEIC format iPhone images and the lossless RAW format used by pro photographers that record all the image data taken from a camera sensor.

In essence, you get larger files with less compression, but which can still use Apple’s photographic tricks---such as noise reduction, Apple’s multiframe exposure adjustments, and more.

To toggle ProRAW off on and on, go to Settings > Camera > Formats, and then turn on Apple ProRAW. You can then easily switch between the RAW and regular photo options by tapping the RAW icon in the Camera app.

While anyone worried about storage (or happy with the size and quality of their regular iPhone snaps) can easily stick with the old format, ProRAW photos are great for images you want to print or use in some other scenario where the usual compression just isn't going to cut it! You can edit them as usual in the Photos app.

What Else Does iOS 14.3 Add?

On top of this, iOS 14.3 adds the option to record video at 25fps, support for Ecosia as a default search engine, support for Apple’s fancy new AirPods Max headphones, and support for launching App Clips by scanning Apple-designed App Clip Codes using the camera or from the Control Center.

There’s also a very handy tweak for the Apple TV app, adding a new, dedicated Apple TV+ tab to make it easier to find Apple’s original video content. Since Apple TV+ continues to be a big focus for Apple, this is good news, as it makes discovery far simpler when it comes to seeking out the latest Apple TV+ series or movie.
