My internet freezes usually when I am downloading big files, or torrenting (mostly legal stuff), but my iPod Touch and Xbox live work fine.
Also this sometimes happens when I am just browsing. Google Chrome gets stuck on resolving host and the only way to solve this is to restart my computer.

Your ISP might be also blocking you during the torrenting. Once my ISP was blocking me (if I download antything) during so called busy hours during the day. I suggest you contact them and ask about it.
