I am running OS 10.6.8 on my iMac and I have an external 1TB hard drive with 4 partitions. What is the easiest way to install Windows XP on one of these partitions so my iMac can run Windows XP?

Hello, do you want to do it as a dual boot or using a virtual machine?  There is usually the option of using Boot Camp but in your case it is not doable because as far as I understand, boot camp does not run in external drives. If you want to run a virtual machine with mac as the host, you could try using paralles:https://parallels.sjv.io/c/119570/1081277/13842?subId1=UUmuoUeUpU85405&subId2=emuo&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.parallels.com%2Fproducts%2Fdesktop%2FRequirements for parallels:https://parallels.sjv.io/c/119570/1081277/13842?subId1=UUmuoUeUpU85405&subId2=emuo&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.parallels.com%2Fproducts%2Fdesktop%2Fresources%2F%2523requirements&ourl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.parallels.com%2Fproducts%2Fdesktop%2Fsystem-requirements%2FFor dual booting, you could try the following options:http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/install-windows-xp-mac/

A free alternative to Parallels (still requires a valid Windows license) is VirtualBox:https://www.virtualbox.org/These virtualization options will allow you to run Windows software at the same time as Mac OS X, but you'll have a performance hit since you'll be sharing resources (CPU and RAM) with the Mac OS.
