I have downloaded Windows XP SP3 from PirateBay and transferred it to USB using wintoflash. When I try to boot it in my netbook, it gives the following error:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll. Please reinstall a copy of above file.
I had Meego OS before and it has gone after first attempt. It does not have a CD drive. Please help me installing Windows on my netook.

Someone had the same problem as you with system32hal.dllso Step 3:At this stage after u had created your partition, and install the window at the partition that u had select. The window will be restart automatically for the first time. After restart, the window won’t startup and continues the window installation; this time u need boot the flash drive again and choose the 2nd option. If any error (eg. Hal.dll) occur, try using the other option that had stated.http://komku.blogspot.com/2009/09/wintoflash-guide-install-windows-xp.html

Get a legal version of Windows? Windows versiosn from Torrent are mostly broken, use some hacked kernels and DLLs or are full of malware. If you really want to fix this installation I suggest going through the following article:http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/missinghaldll.htm

I am with Mike here, the legal side aside cracked Windows setups are likely to have malware already in the setup. Once installed you're also going to have issues updating Windows with patches from Microsoft. Basically, it's just too much of risk and totally not worth it.
