I bought an ASUS X501A with Linux on it, how can I delete it and install Windows 7? I've tried to install applications but the computer just asks me for my authentication password, how can I get around this?

if you already have more than 4 primary partitions you may have to delete one of them caz windows won't be happy probably won't run on logical partition, free space which you will get from deleting parttion, use it to creat partition from windows installation...after your first boot you might will need to use a software called Easy BCD so you can boot from linux and windows later , once your done with it on next boot you should have choice to boot from windows or linux :)

Insert your Windows CD/DVD and you can tell it to wipe the entire drive and install. This will make you lose any data in that partition. Otherwise you can use VirtualBox to use Windows within Linux.

Using Linux cd you can delete the partitions of the hard drive of your laptop then the hard drive become RAW, then using Windows installation cd you can partition your hard drive and then install windows to selective partition of your laptop.

This is simple if you don't need linux in your system and only windows. get a windows Disc ( any version you want ) and insert the disc when you start the pc or after starting ( reboot if already gone in to linux ) and when it's prompt ( "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" ) press any key. then follow the onscreen instruction to install windows. ( this is a complete new install and may wipe your data on the HDD so back them first. )

It is not as easy as installing Linux on Windows. However, it is possible to do it. First partition your drives and install Windows in the free drive space. Then you will not be able to login to Linux as the bootmanager is destroyed by Windows. Now If it is Ubuntu, there are some apps to repair/install GRUB. Use them and you are done.

Would have helped if you would have mentioned the linux distro name. Anyways you can boot from a Windows CD/DVD and totally re-partition and re-format the disk to have a clean windows install and do away with the linux installed in the laptop to only have windows installed and running.

Now a days, if a computer comes with Linux installed by default, it is understood that it is Ubuntu implicitly.

"Now a days, if a computer comes with Linux installed by default, it is understood that it is Ubuntu implicitly."That is not so. Computer manufacturers such as Dell or HP will install any distro that the customers wants. For corporate environment it is most likely Red Hat or CentOS. For private customers it most often is Debian, Red Hat, Fedora as well as Ubuntu. If the computer is purchased used from a private owner, there are literally hundreds of Linux distros that could be installed. On my PCs I run SimplyMEPIS, antiX, PClinuxOS and siduction.
