Instagram has launched a new sticker for Stories that automatically generates captions based on the audio. Not only does this allow users to watch Stories without the sound on, but it will also prove helpful for those with hearing impairments.

You Can Now Auto-Caption Your Story

In a Tweet, Instagram announced that you can now "add a captions sticker in Stories (coming soon to Reels) that automatically turns what you say into text." The feature is currently only available for English audio, but Instagram plans on adding support for other languages soon.

The auto-captioning sticker was first spotted in March 2021, and now the feature is finally live. You'll be able to find it in the usual sticker drawer, and it will be titled Captions.

After applying the sticker to your Story, you'll be able to change the caption's font, color, and position on your video. You'll also be able to edit the text in case the feature transcribed something incorrectly.

Other Platforms That Incorporate Auto Captions

Instagram's addition of an auto-captioning sticker comes after both Facebook and TikTok added automatic transcription features. IGTV has also already had an auto-captioning feature since 2020, so it was only a matter of time before automatic captions hit Stories as well.
