Instagram has announced the launch of a new quiet mode, alongside other features to give users more control over their experience. The mode will be limited to certain regions at launch, with expectations to expand.

Instagram Adds Quiet Mode, Expanded Hidden Words

The announcement of the new features came from Instagram head Adam Mosseri on 19 January 2022, with details provided in an Instagram blog announcement.

Along with quiet mode, the platform also introduced an expansion of hidden words to include recommendations, and the ability to mark multiple posts as "Not Interested" at once.

Instagram has been experimenting with various new features and tests to add new experiences and compete with rivals. This includes a test of Candid Stories, as well as posting a status with the Notes feature on Instagram.

Quiet mode will allow users to set hours during the day where they won't receive notifications. Once the scheduled quiet time passes, all notifications during that time will be delivered as one batch notification. Quiet mode turns on automatically during the scheduled time period.

Quiet mode is particularly aimed at teens, and all teen users will be prompted to try out the feature if they spend a specific amount of time on Instagram "late at night". However, the feature has only launched in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Instagram says it's hoping to bring the feature to more countries in future.

If someone tries to send you a message while you're in quiet mode, they'll receive a notification that you have the mode enabled. This means you don't have to worry about contacts thinking they're being ignored.

Of course, if you never want to receive any push notifications from the app, you can pause all Instagram notifications.

More Ways to Control Your Instagram Experience

Quiet mode makes sure you interact with Instagram and receive notifications only when you want to. This update, as well as other features, let you have more control over the way you experience the app.
