Instagram plans to make huge changes to its feed, aiming at giving users some form of control over the order of content. The changes will see Instagram add two new ways for ordering your feed. The first option is chronological feed, which shows you content based on the time it was posted. The second is a new feature called Favorites.

Here's all you need to know about Instagram's new feed customization features and why you should be excited about them.

Instagram's Finally Adding a Customizable Feed

If you miss Instagram's chronological order, worry no more because it's coming back. Not entirely, though, just a "version" of it, according to Instagram's head Adam Mosseri.

In a Senate hearing broadcast on YouTube Live on how the platform is handling the safety of teenagers, Mosseri said, "We're currently working on a version of a chronological feed that we hope to launch next year." Mosseri also revealed they've been working on the feature for months and plan to roll it out soon.

And it doesn't stop there, either. Instagram is also working on a brand new feature dubbed Favorites that will be an additional way to order your feed.

With Favorites and a refreshed take on the chronological feed, you have two new ways to explore Instagram posts—in addition to the current algorithmic-driven feed that shows you content based on various factors.

In a Twitter post, Instagram said the two new features would be optional, and they won't force users to switch back to a chronological feed.

Why Instagram's Customizable Feed Is a Welcome Change

Instagram's upcoming change to its feed is good news to users, especially those who've long wished that the platform returned its chronological feed. It gets even better since everyone gets the power to decide how they want to see content on their feed.

That's way better instead of having a one-size-fits-all solution that doesn't work well for all. With three options available, you can test each and pick what works best for you.

This move could be a response when the platform came under fire recently over its algorithmic recommendation and how it handled teen safety. That's also the reason why they've been forcing users to add their birthdays.
