Adding an image into a cell is surprisingly easy, and you'll be looking like a pro in Google Sheets in no time.

  1. Select the cell you are going to use.
  2. Then go up to your toolbar and select Insert.
  3. Next, select Image and then the option to Insert an image in the cell.
  4. Choose the image you want to insert and then press Open.

Your chosen image will now be inside your selected cell.

How to Resize an Image in a Cell in Google Sheets

There's no need to worry about resizing an image before inserting it into a cell. Images inserted into cells will automatically resize when the cell is resized.

You can expand the width of a cell to increase the size of an image inside it. In the same way, to make an image inside a cell smaller, you need to shrink the width of the row and column.

If you want your image to sit on top of the cells inside your Google Sheet, then follow the process above, but instead of selecting Insert image in the cell, select Insert an image over the cells option instead. Images inserted over cells can be moved and sized as normal, but will block you from editing the cell data beneath them.

If you want to take an image out of a cell and have it sit on top of your cells instead, then here’s what to do.

  1. Right-click the image inside the cell.
  2. Find and select Image.
  3. Then select Put image over cells.

The image will now sit on top of the cells in your Google Sheet.
