Hi, thanks for the response. I'm not a techy so don't know what any of this means. My mouse works ok and the left hand side of my keyboard works but the right hand is slow and sluggish. It has to be the pc as I've tried other keyboards. Is it 8.1 or something else?

you can try to reinstall or update driver if there is one-open device manager-locate keyboard driver-right click on it and choose uninstall (do not delete)-rebootyou can check here a screenshot regarding the BIOS XHCI Modeyou can also try to reset cmos battery, unplug from the wall then remove the cmos battery for 1h

Go into the advanced mode in the UEFI bios and disable Intel XHCI Modehttp://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-system/windows-81-keyboard-mouse-not-working/816a6e6d-3335-42a8-9626-2171bd9b6c68
