IKEA has launched its first air purifier, the Förnuftig. The company aims to deliver clean air to someone on a tight budget and cannot afford expensive air purifiers.

The Förnuftig air purifier can remove small and large particles from the air so that you breathe in clean and pure air devoid of harmful pollutants. Indoor air pollution can lead to health issues like stroke, respiratory diseases, cancer, and more.

IKEA's First Air Purifier Has a Unique Design

For an air purifier, the Förnuftig has a unique design. It has a woven grille design and is available in black or white colors. The sleek design means the air purifier can also be mounted vertically or horizontally on a wall, which is not possible with most of the other air purifiers in the market.

In its press release, IKEA notes that it wants to make clean indoor air accessible to all with its first air purifier.

The Förnuftig has a filter to remove big particles like hair and dust. It also has a separate HEPA 12 filter for removing smaller and more harmful PM2.5 pollutants in the air, including dust and pollen. There's another filter that removes all gaseous pollutants from the air like formaldehyde and foul smell from smoking and cooking.

The air purifier is simple to use. You can turn it on by turning the dial to the wanted fan speed. In total, there are three different fan speeds. The lowest one is ideal to quietly clean the air in your room when you are sleeping. There's no automatic fan setting, though, so the Förnuftig will not automatically ramp up fan speeds when it detects higher PM levels in the air.

Depending on the set fan speed, the air purifier will consume anywhere between 2.5W to 19W of power. The air purifier has been designed for rooms that are about 10 square meters in size. It has a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 130 cubic meters, making it ideal for bedrooms or a home office.

There's no smart functionality here or Google Assistant integration, though, given the budget pricing, this makes sense.

IKEA Förnuftig Price and Availability

The IKEA Förnuftig costs $54.99, making it among the cheapest air purifiers on the market. The replacement filter set for the air purifier is also priced reasonably at $15: $9.99 for the gaseous pollutants filter and $5.49 for the HEPA filter.

Depending on your use case and how polluted the indoor air is in your room, you will likely replace the filters once a year. Just like other IKEA products, you will have to assemble the Förnuftig yourself as well. You can buy the IKEA Förnuftig from IKEA's online store.
