How would you rate eBay in terms of trustworthiness in online shopping?
And can you recommend alternative or additions to eBay in terms of reliability and security in online shopping?

I have had a great experience 99% of the times I've purchased something on eBay, all you need to do is pay using PayPal and buy from trusted sellers.

It’s not possible to give eBay a single rating for trustworthiness, since almost anyone can sell things on the site. However, eBay have gone to great lengths to offer a safe shopping experience,

The "condition" of the goods (new, used etc) is given in the second line of the description, just after the main description. I've posted a screenshot showing this at:https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ifsfww4e46ehv2/eBayItemCondition.jpg?v=0mcn

That's a bad question, given that eBay is a marketplace for other sellers and not an online shop in and of itself. If you're buying from a reputable and professional seller there, you should be fine. If you're buying from a random guy on an auction, you take your chances. However, if you use PayPal, you automatically get dispute resolution and protection, so if you dont receive the item you can always get your money back.

No, actually your question specifically says "How would you rate eBay in terms of trustworthiness". It doesn't say anything about tips to keep transactions secure, though I gave you those anyway. You're welcome.

Look at what the seller has on offer, Has the seller sold shed loads of low value items and all of a sudden starting selling high value items? Are the prices too good to be true?Check out the buyers feedback. is the feedback left too quickly for an item after it has been bought? Chances are that the seller has boosted his/her own reputationwww.goofbid.com have a number of tools you can use to check all of the above (other ebay monitoring sites are available ;) )

Thank youIs powership registration payment to be made offline or online?

Dave's answer is spot on. For many people, selling on eBay is their livelihood, therefore they behave ethically. (For the most part) If someone has great feedback and has sold a high volume of products, they're probably pretty legitimate and you can buy from them with confidence.

Thanks!Appending a sub-question : Can you pl also tell what is difference between selling an item directly and sending to auction?

The site is certainly trustworthy, and millions of people buy and sell using it every day. However, you enter into a financial agreement with a third party individual, and they aren't always so trustworthy. Check out a user's feedback -- not only their score but also the items they bought or sold -- to make sure they're at least not total scammers. The majority aren't out to con you, but there is always a possibility of encountering such a person.

Thanks for useful pointswhat is difference between selling and forwarding an item to auction?(because both selling and auction have time preset limits)

well if you pay with paypal you can get your money back if item not delivered or is altered? you have 45 days from purchased date i think to claim otherwise the deal is over.

HulloAdding a sub-question : What are criteria for ebay seller in India to offer paypal to buyers?
2013-05-26 22:00:24
It's not possible to give eBay a single rating for trustworthiness, since almost anyone can sell things on the site. However, eBay have gone to great lengths to offer a safe shopping experience, and to that end they introduced the rating system (the number just under "seller information", star rating and the ability to look at feedback for the seller. They also allow you to complain to them and will take action if you were cheated. Sellers are rightly worried about their reputation and try to keep users happy.I have only needed to complain once, and the result was I got my money back (after a bit of a run around, it must be said) and the seller was removed from eBay (something similar happened to me on Amazon as well). On the whole, I'd say it's a good, reliable system, but you DO need to look at the seller's feedback, particularly when purchasing something expensive.Another thing to watch for is to read the item description VERY CAREFULLY. It's not unusual at all for people to sell a "software CD" without the licence, or documentation (only) instead of the actual item. You really need to make sure you are bidding/buying what you want, and not just an accessory.

my last two items that i have sold on ebay were both a disaster,on both items these idiots hit the buy it now button, than realized they did not have enough money, one guy thought it was funny, and the other one said his BABY accidently hit the computer keys by accident.yeah right, both high dollar items, one for $15,000 and the other for $3,000.and ebay still lets them keep on bidding.
