What Is Telegram’s Voice Chat 2.0?

Voice Chat 2.0 is Telegram’s update to its existing Voice Chat feature. This new upgrade allows admins of public groups to host group chats for an unlimited number of live listeners.

  • Creating Speaker and Listener Links
  • Hand Raising
  • Chat Recording
  • Join As...

Below is a look at each new feature and how to use them.

Hosting Limitless Voice Chats

While you could already host voice chats on the first version, Voice Chat 2.0 takes it a step further by allowing you to host unlimited voice chats in Telegram groups and channels where you’re an admin.

The initial Voice Chat feature was limited to thousands of participants, but Voice Chat 2.0 allows you to host audio chatrooms with millions of live listeners.

You can now create unique invite links that users can click on and join the chatroom with instantly.

You can also create separate links for speakers and listeners. Listeners will be muted when they join, but speakers won’t.

Hand-Raising

Voice Chat 2.0 also comes with the option to raise your hand, where listeners can ask to speak. When a listener taps on the sign, Telegram notifies the admin of the listener’s intention to talk. The listener can then be unmuted.

Chat Recording

Telegram has acknowledged that while some conversations are meant to be temporary, others are worth preserving and passing on. That is why the company added a recording option in its new update.

You can now record your voice chats and share them later with the group or channel members who missed the live event.

Join As...

Another update that comes with Voice Chat 2.0 is the Join As... option. You can choose to join a chatroom with your personal profile, or to appear as one of your channels.

This feature comes in handy when you want to participate in a chat, but don't want to draw too much attention to your personal account.

Is It Time to Stop Shopping Around for Clubhouse Invites?

You've probably noticed that Voice Chat 2.0 functions similarly to Clubhouse. With features that enable you to host and moderate audio chatrooms, Telegram's Voice Chat update is a suitable Clubhouse alternative.

If you’re yet to get a Clubhouse invite, you can use Telegram's Voice Chat feature to host live audio chats with your friends and followers. Then, once Clubhouse becomes more accessible, you can change to that platform if you want to.
