With new updates and new features rolling out every so often, Snapchat is the gift that keeps giving. Snap Map arrived in 2017 and soon became increasingly popular. It eventually got its own individual tab so Snapchatters could make use better use of it.
A newer addition to the Snap Map is My Places, a feature that claims to help you explore the world. But how does it do this?
Here's a quick look at what Snap Map really is and how you can use the new My Places on it.
What Is Snap Map?
Snap Map is the app's very own in-built map that allows location sharing so you see your friends' location on Snapchat. You can see where they currently are on the Snap Map and vice versa. However, if you don't want anyone to see your location, you can just switch to Ghost Mode instead.
Snap Map also consists of an "Our Story" icon that allows a user to add their snaps to a story that can publicly be viewed worldwide. If you want to take a look at "Our Story" from a particular city, all you need to do is find that location on the Snap Map and tap on it.
You can see all the stories in that particular location that were added to Snap Map.
What Is My Places and How Can You Use It?
My Places is a new feature on Snap Map that recommends popular places to visit based on locations you've previously visited, tagged in posts, or added to your favorites.
There are over 30 million businesses you can find, with more to be added over time. You can mark your favorite spots and search for places recommended by friends, too, making Snap Map a lot more personalized. The feature has separate tabs to create a favorites list and keep a record of the places you've visited.
Here's how you can use this new feature on Snapchat:
- Open Snapchat and click on the location icon at the bottom left of your home screen.
- Tap on the Places icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Click on Popular to see personalized recommendations according to your current location. Tap Favourites to see places you have added to your favorites list or Visited to see previously visited locations or businesses.
If you want to plan a trip ahead of time and want to search popular sites in the location you're heading to, here's how to do it.
- Open Snap Map by tapping on the location icon at the bottom left of your home screen.
- Click and drag to navigate around the map and find your desired location.
- Once set, click on Search this Area. A list of popular places will pop up. Click on the heart icon to add them to your Favourites tab.
Want to find out more about the places you've been to before in the Visited tab? Scroll down the list and tap on the business you want more information about. You will see a set of reviews along with ratings and popular times for visits (if it applies).
You can even share this information with a friend on Snapchat if you like it.
Explore the World Using the New Snap Map
Snap Map is undoubtedly a great way to stay connected with what your friends are up to. It also lets you view different regions in the world from a personal perspective. Snap Map and its purpose are unique to Snapchat only, and you can't find the same thing on a similar social media platform.
