The swift rise in the popularity of AI-based tools has even got big-name brands racing towards integrating them into their products. Of the many social media platforms we would have guessed to have jumped on the AI bandwagon, Snapchat seems the most fitting.

Integrated with ChatGPT's exceptional conversation skills, Snapchat's latest addition now brings a new friend for its users. Let's take a closer look at everything Snapchat's AI chatbot can do and how you can get your hands on it.

What is My AI on Snapchat?

Snapchat My AI Monotonous Response

Soon after Microsoft brought AI to Bing, Snapchat introduced My AI as an add-on experimental feature for its premium subscription model. My AI, alongside other experimental features in Snapchat+, will be made available to its subscribed users.

Snapchat's chatbot uses is built with OpenAI's ChatGPT. In theory, you could get My AI to do anything ChatGPT would, but it seems to be a tad bit more restrictive.

How to Access My AI on Snapchat

If you're not already a Snapchat+ user, you will need to subscribe in the app. It may take a few hours after you subscribe to Snapchat+ for the AI chatbot to pop into your friends list. It will then showup as pinned conversation. You can start texting it as you would to any of your other friends and My AI will try its best to adapt to your usage.

As it stands, you can indulge in regular conversations surrounding both general information and trivia. My AI can answer prompts almost instantly and can handle follow-up questions really well.

Jokes, games, and suggestions seem to be the highlight of My AI's capabilities as a friendly chatbot. Although it can handle jokes and advice pretty well, it seems persistent in recommending you the games available on Snapchat—which it cannot participate in. You can still get My AI to play text-based games like 21 questions, trivia, and truth or dare.

Something that is very impressive is My AI's speed. Unlike ChatGPT which usually takes a good few seconds to generate a detailed response, My AI does it in a jiffy.

What Limitations Does My AI Have?An infograph displaying what Snapchat's AI can and can't do

My AI tends to end most of its responses with a "...is there anything else I can help you with?" phrase, which ends up sounding repetitive. This impedes the friendly chatbot experience that it claims to bring.

Other limitations stem from the content restrictions of ChatGPT itself, which include no profanity, explicit content, or personal preferences. There's also the entire possibility of it answering something completely wrong.

While most of these are policy-related restrictions that make sense, My AI currently cannot understand any stickers or Bitmojis—the latter being one of Snapchat's key features. My AI also cannot respond to you by sending snaps, although the chatbot being able to generate images using DALL-E is something we could look forward to.

Does My AI Store Sensitive Information?

Any interactions with Snapchat's chatbot will be stored for 24 hours, which is the default timer for clearing a conversation. You can choose to save specific chats in hope that My AI keeps them for longer too.

You can also delete your conversations manually. In our experience, the chatbot already has trouble remembering previously granted information, such as birthdays or nicknames.

But you can choose to completely clear your conversation history and start afresh:

  1. Tap on your Bitmoji and head to settings.
  2. Scroll down under the Account Actions section and tap on the Clear My AI chat queries option.
  3. Tap on Confirm and you should be good to go!

Do More With My AI on Snapchat

Despite its limitations, Snapchat's AI-powered chatbot is quite impressive, and like any other AI tool, is projected to only keep getting better with use.

With OpenAI's integration and the exponential rate at which artificial intelligence is growing, the sky's the limit when it comes to engaging in entertaining conversations with tools such as My AI and ChatGPT.
