Instagram Reels users can now create collaborative posts with the Remix feature. The feature allows you to combine your recording with another user's—similar to TikTok’s Duet.

Here’s all you need to know about the Remix feature and how to use it in your Instagram Reels.

How to Use Remix for Your Instagram Reels

The Remix feature on Instagram can be used to create Reels that are displayed side-by-side with existing Reels. The concept is similar to Duets on TikTok and anyone can download your Reels to create their own Remix.

People remix Reels to create skits, reactions, and collaborations.

To create a Remix, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the clip you want to remix. You can remix any Reel that has the feature enabled, or your own Reels.
  2. Tap the three dots to the right of the video.
  3. Select Remix This Reel from the menu.
  4. The original video will play on the left of your screen, while your camera screen will be on the right. You can upload a video from your camera roll or record it live by pressing the recording button.
  5. You can edit the clip using the tools on the left of the screen. You can adjust the volume and speed, add effects, text, and voiceovers, or include stickers and drawings. There is also a timer and alignment tool available to use.
  6. Add in a caption and select your video settings.
  7. Tap Share to post the Reel.

How to Disable Remixes of Your Instagram Posts

Instagram users automatically have the Remix feature enabled. You can turn it off in the Privacy Settings tab.

You can also adjust the settings by turning off the remixing feature for individual Reels from the More menu of that Reel. Notably, anyone will be able to use your audio, even if you disable the remixing feature.

Creating and sharing Reels is one of the best ways to maximize your exposure on Instagram.  Enabling the feature can increase your reach if others remix it and share the clip with their audience.

Remixing Reels on Instagram

The Remix feature for Reels opens up the possibility for more collaborative videos to be created and shared on Instagram.

It is a natural addition for the platform and one which is already familiar for social media users thanks to TikTok's Duet feature.
