Privacy is a sensitive subject for most people. If you’re tired of being tracked by the apps on your iPhone or iPad, Apple made it easy to stop them from being able to do so. Here’s everything you need to know about doing so.

What Is App Tracking?

App tracking is the practice of apps tracking your movements inside their app as well as in other apps. What this means is everything you press, post, and look at on one particular app will be tracked and sent to the developers as user data for their own purposes.

Most people accept this as the price of engaging with an app, but dislike the fact that apps can continue to track you even when you’ve closed their app.

To help, Apple introduced an app tracking transparency feature to help you prevent any iPhone app from tracking you. While this cuts off all app from being able to track you, you may only have a problem with specific apps tracking you, which you can disable individually instead.

How to Stop Individual Apps From Tracking You

Let’s say you don’t want to turn off app tracking for all apps, but you’ve accidentally pressed Allow on a new app when asked whether you consent to it tracking you. In this case, there is no need to fear because you can prevent the individual app from tracking you in just a few simple steps. To do this:

  1. Go to the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to the app that you’d like to disable tracking for.
  3. Tap on the app.
  4. Find the toggle bar next to Allow Tracking and tap to disable it.

By following these steps, you should have disabled the individual app from tracking you on your iPhone.

Prevent Individual Apps From Tracking

Even if you accept tracking from some of the apps you have on your iPhone, that doesn’t mean you should accept it for all of them. If you ever change your mind on allowing a particular app to track you, you can always repeat the steps outlined above to stop it.

You can use Apple’s app tracking transparency feature to prevent all apps from tracking you, but beware that it may not be as helpful as you think.
